Nearly every brand that manufactures baby strollers has a full-size stroller in their line—and that can make choosing the right baby gear exceptionally challenging. When shopping for a stroller, how do you choose when such a well-respected brand like Nuna has more than one highly-rated option?

Main Differences Between the TAVO Next and MIXX NEXT

Both the Nuna TAVO Next and the Nuna MIXX Next are high-end strollers with a lot to offer, but there are important distinctions you should know about. Besides the price (the MIXX is more expensive), the main difference between the Nuna TAVO Next and MIXX Next is the seat. 

On the MIXX Next, the seat is reversible and removable, so you can use it with a bassinet or car seat from birth. The seat on the Nuna TAVO is not reversible, but is compatible with Nuna Pipa car seats, no adapters needed. The seat also has a larger ventilation panel—a nice bonus for families who live in warmer climates.

According to Nuna, the MIXX Next is the brand’s most popular stroller, because it’s a durable and comfortable travel system that’s relatively compact and packed with convenience features.

Like other great travel systems, the Nuna MIXX Next stroller can be used in four ways. Use the seat from birth with a PIPA infant car seat or a MIXX bassinet (ring adapter required, but included). Or, use the toddler seat facing in towards you or out towards the world.

No matter how you use it, you’ll love how easy the stroller is to push. Both the front wheels and rear wheels are rubber and foam-filled for increased shock absorption, so your little one won’t feel bumps or cracks in the sidewalk. It also has free-flex rear-wheel suspension to reduce excess stress on the frame when you’re tackling tougher terrain like ice or a rocky pathway.

The seat is also designed for your kiddo’s comfort. It reclines to five different positions, the fabric insert is a temperature-regulating bamboo blend and the extendable UPF 50+ canopy offers plenty of ventilation.

But one of the features parents might celebrate the most? The fact that the Nuna MIXX Next effortlessly folds with one hand, stands upright for storage and has plenty of compatible accessories—like a bassinet, bassinet stand, rain cover, cup holder, child snack tray and wheeled travel bag (all sold separately)—to help you make your stroller everything you ever wanted.

Best for: Suburban families who don’t mind a little extra weight if it affords more options and conveniences

Despite being one of the brand’s more budget-friendly options, the Nuna TAVO Next has one very big draw: Unlike all other Nuna strollers, the TAVO Next turns into a travel system without any adapters. All you have to do is place one of the brand’s PIPA series infant car seats directly onto the stroller arm bar to lock it into place.

The TAVO Next is also slightly more compact and just about 5 pounds lighter, making it a great choice for city dwellers who are constantly carrying their stroller in and out of buildings and public transportation hubs. It also folds in one swift movement and stands upright, so you can tuck it into a small closet—again, a feature that’s ideal for apartment living. (All of these attributes make it a great travel stroller, too.)

The stroller’s wheels can tackle curbs and bumps in the sidewalk just as well as any other Nuna stroller, too. The frame is equipped with foam-filled rear tires and rubber front tires, as well as rear-wheel free-flex suspension. What exactly does that mean? If it’s time for your kiddo’s nap and you’re stuck out and about, don’t worry—the ride is so smooth, they’ll have no trouble snoozing.

In most other areas, the Nuna TAVO Next is sufficient for most, but falls a bit short of the MIXX Next. For example, the TAVO has four recline positions instead of five, a one-compartment storage basket instead of a two-compartment and fewer compatible accessories (i.e. no option for a cup holder).

The biggest drawback to the TAVO Next relates to the seat. While the seat is removable to accommodate a PIPA infant car seat, it does not accept the bassinet. It’s also not reversible—your little one has to face out when using the seat. If there’s any upside to this, it’s that the seat on the TAVO Next has a much larger ventilation panel that makes the seat more comfortable for your little one in hotter weather.

Best for: City dwellers who want a lightweight and compact travel system

Though many may overlook the dimensions of any strollers they’re considering, it’s an important metric to pay attention to. A more compact stroller is easier to store when you’re not using it, plus easier to stash in the trunk if you’re heading out on errands. Of course, it’s also easier to travel longer distances—like on an airplane—with a compact stroller. Overall, the Nuna MIXX is larger when standing, but is 6.5 inches shorter when folded. For portability, the latter matters more.

Both strollers can be used from birth to 50 pounds. But if you hope to use a bassinet while your little one is still a newborn, you’ll want to set your sights on the Nuna MIXX Next.

When it comes to built-in accessories, the strollers are very similar. Both have a bamboo blend removable seat insert and sky drape canopy with ventilation, as well as a storage basket. But if you’re interested in compatible accessories, you’ll have more options with the MIXX. Options for the MIXX Next include a bassinet, bassinet stand, rain cover, cup holder, child snack tray and wheeled travel bag; options for the TAVO Next are limited to a rain cover and a child snack tray.

Both strollers have the same folding mechanism that makes them exceptionally easy to break down and store. Both the TAVO Next and MIXX Next have a one-piece, compact fold-away axle, so the whole thing instantly collapses on itself. Both strollers also stand upright when folded to conserve space in tight areas like closets, garages and even trunks.

Nuna MIXX Next vs. TAVO Next: Which Is Better For You? 

When you narrow your focus on a few great options, you can drastically cut the time you’ll have to spend reading stroller reviews. Both the Nuna TAVO Next and the Nuna MIXX Next are fantastic full-size strollers that offer a smooth ride, an effortless fold and enviable accessories like a comfortable bamboo blend seat insert and an extendable UPF 50+ canopy. 

If you’re having a hard time settling on one over the other, remember: The TAVO may be more budget-friendly and compact, but it doesn’t have a reversible seat and isn’t quite as feature-packed as the MIXX Next — plus, the TAVO doesn’t accommodate a bassinet. If you really want it all, you’re going to want to splurge on the MIXX Next, a model that’s still significantly less than wildly popular options like the UPPAbaby Vista.
